AMANGIRI ADVENTURE

I met Crystal & Kyle for sunrise at Amangiri to celebrate their engagement. They told me of their deep love for their son, the excitement around their upcoming wedding and how magical the stars are out West. We explored slot canyons, our Navajo guide shared traditional music with us, and we dodged a baby snake. I love this desert so much, and sharing it with others is one of the best parts of what I get to do.

The Arizona desert in July is no joke, but we were able to stay one step ahead of the soaring temps by waking up for sunrise at Amangiri, and then touring several slot canyons before the harshest heat arrived. The slot canyons that you see here are all located on Navajo Nation. To visit them, you must hire a tribal member as a guide, which helps protect these special places. Crystal & Kyle arranged for a private guide through Amangiri, which meant that we had these slots all to ourselves. While the nearby Antelope Canyon is of course stunning, there was something really beautiful and peaceful about experiencing the solitude of these canyons. Our Navajo guide shared stories of where these canyons received their namesakes and shared his music with us. Hearing the sound of his flute echo around us on the narrow canyon walls was an experience I feel incredible lucky to have shared with these three humans.

If you would like to learn more about Navajo Nation, here is a brief history.
