What If Eloping Isn't Right for Us?
Couples often ask, “we love the idea of eloping, but we want our family there when we are married. what should we do?”
As much as I love and promote elopements and intimate weddings, I really love when couples feel close to their family and want to spend that time with them. BUT, I think if you have a large wedding, you can still carve out time in your wedding plans to have quiet moments with your person.
Two things I love to suggest:
Do a separate session before or after your wedding in a place you love, or near your wedding. Take this time to share your vows with each other and just soak up some time for the two of you.
Plan an hour or two on your wedding day where you can do the same. No distractions, just the two of you (and your photographer and pups of course).
This sweet couple wanted just that. They were married in the mountains with all of their friends and family and had the most epic dance party. I loved that they took this time beforehand to go somewhere special together and share vows they had written for each other. As always, weather is unpredictable in the desert and the whole drive to Capitol Reef National Park, we weren’t sure what we were going to be in for. The wind was strong, which always leads to beautiful photos (even if it did blow her bouquet away, don’t worry, I chased it down), and it started to rain just as we were finishing shooting.
Whatever you plan for your wedding day, I’d encourage you to make time for the two of you during the planning process and on your day. It’s so important to keep the person and reason you’re getting married at the forefront, even when things feel a little stressful and crazy.
