Engagement shoot checklist: Pups, craft beer, and a beautiful picnic spot.

I met these two out near Moab to photograph them celebrating their engagement. We packed up and went on a hike with their cute pup. I feel so inspired when photographing engagement sessions that include something a couple actually likes doing. For these two it was hiking, reading together and hanging out by a fire. Of course taking beautiful portraits is wonderful too, but I am always trying to figure out how to make photographs feel like a little time capsule of how a couple was actually spending their time at that point in their life. Photoshoots have the potential to feel so contrived- so learning about my couples and what they love to do helps them be comfortable and helps me create photographs that feel true to them.
